Electric circuit

Good afternoon my scattered classmates. This is Wahida posting.

Let's begin from friday, May, 28, 2010:

We had a sub- Ms. Woo (I believe). With her help we corrected the chapter 23 Study Guide. If you need the answers I will be more than happy to lend to mine.
Next we corrected Chapter 35: Electric Circuits- COMPOUND CIRCUITS. The answers are as follows:
1. 1/5 +1/5 =2/5
=5/2
=2.5 ohms
2. 1/8 + 1/8 =2/8
=8/2
=4ohms
3a. 1 ohm+1 ohm=2 ohms 1/2+1/2=1

Yup, so today in class we watched a video on Electric Current by Mr. Same Same. All we need to do is write 7 and a half points on what we watched.

Magnetic Fields & Electric Potential

Hi guys.. I didn't know I was the next scribe. :) Anyway, here's what we did in today's class:
  • Ms. K handed back the homework from p. 423 (#17) on the green booklet about Electric Fields that was worth 5 marks.
  • We corrected the Concept-Development Practice Page 33-2 - Chapter 33: Electric Fields and Potential. It's the double sided sheet with drawings on it.
Electric Potential:

Oh yeah, please highlight this part on the front page of the sheet right after question #2: At any point, a greater quantity of test charge means a greater amount of PE, but not a greater amount of PE per quantity of charge. The quantities PE (measured in joules) and PE/charge (measured in volts) are different concepts. I believe this is an important information about this unit that most students get confused of. :)
  • After this, we also did the Electric Potential work sheet from yesterday's class and put the answers on the white board after we were given some time to do it. So here you go:

And another sheet called Physics 40S Electric and Magnetic Fields Assignment - The Physics of a Cathode Ray Tube that may be for hand in tomorrow in class.
** Make sure you've handed in your lab that we did the other day and questions 4&5 on Electric Fields Strength. **

Reminder: Our unit test is on May 19, Wednesday.

Hello hello!!

1) Today, we corrected Electric Field Strength, questions 1 to 3, the rest of the questions, 4 and 5, are due tomorrow.

3) There were four sheets handed out: ELECTRIC POTENTIAL(WORKSHEET), CHAPTER 33:ELECTRIC FIELDS AND POTENTIAL, GRAVITAIONAL POTENTIAL ENERGY(BOOKLET) and a lab worksheet (Chapter 21:Charges, Energy, Voltage), which, I believe, is due tomorrow.

*Two things are to be handed in , Electric Field Strength questions 4 and 5, and Chapter 21, Charges, Energy, Voltage.

Elementary Charge


Today in class, we reviewed what we learned last friday.

We discussed Electric and Magnetic Fields, and Coulomb's Law.


Where k equals the constant 9.0 x 10^9, q's are the charges, and R is the distance.

ELEMENTARY CHARGE
electron = 1.6 x 10^-19
proton = 1.6 x 10^-19


The charge of an electron was measured by Robert Millikan. The charge of the electron is the same as a proton, and you have to have a multiple of this charge, because you cannot have half an electron.


1 Coulomb has 6.24x10^18 elementary charge.
In other words, "1 coulomb is a very big number"

ELECTRIC FIELDS
- Like charges repel each other, while opposite charges flow from the negative charge to the positive charge.

We did some examples on the smart board (i'm not sure if ms. K uploaded it)


And after we did the examples, Ms K gave us a handout, that pretty much explained everything we need to know about coulomb's law.
It covered Coulomb's Law in One Dimension, Coulomb's Law in Two Dimension:Equilateral Triangle, Coulomb's Law in Two Dimensions: The Square : The individual Forces & Adding the Forces. So make sure to get the handout from Ms. K if you weren't in class!

After, Ms K instructed us to answer the Practice questions on page 420, #1-5, and Questions # 10, 11, 15, 16, and 17 on Page 423. The questions on Page 423 may be for hand-in, so make sure you finish your homework!

We started off class by reviewing the answers to the Gravitational Fields worksheet. The answers to this worksheet can be found at the link http://dmciphyz120210.blogspot.com/ . The blog at the top of the page entitled "Gravitational Fields Worksheet" is the one you are looking for. A comparison chart between the constants G and g was made as well:

G / g
- it is a constant on all planets \ - vector
- always remains the same / - on the moon it equals 1.6 N/kg
- a tiny number \ - has direction
- 6.67x10-11 / - changes with mass; - 9.8 N/kg on earth

Additionally, a 5-10 sentence paragraph was handed in on why you believe Dark Matter exists which is backed up with proof (gravitational lensing, stars orbit, etc.).
